Since the paper-formerly-known-as-a-vile-Murdoch-tabloid is now edited by the splendid James Harding I’ve taken up reading The Times. I learn today that a civil servant in his 50s (man, I can think of a few likely candidates) has been bailed over supplying the cocaine, estasy and GHB that seem to have killed former Radio 1 DJ Kevin Greening. Also that presenter Mark Speight from CBBC (which becomes part of life when you have a small child) is arrested after his girlfriend dies is a cocaine binge. Perhaps we should peg the licence fee to the (apparently relentlessly decreasing) street price of cocaine. Given that our public servants appear to be beyond reform, wibbi we at least reformed our drugs laws as recommended by Transform, so people paid tax on buying less strong and uncontaminated intoxicants from regulated sources instead of dangerous concentrated stuff from criminals?
