A great new e-service has been released. People buying a new car can ask TfL (Transport for London, not the non-sticky brand, tefal … bear with me on this) whether it has an outstanding congestion charge due. It has one significant drawback IMHO – it can take up to 10 working days to get an email response. Well I doubt many car buyers would wait that long.

The responsibility rests with the offender and since the date of transfer is logged by both parties, then responsibility rests with the registered keeper of the vehicle.

Another example of a government designed service, I doubt there’ll be much uptake (no stickiness in the service, see) – let’s put the user first and think of the person who wants that car to have a clean bill of health (from car tax to clear accident history to no parking fines) before even considering the purchase.
