It’s official: TB sees the ID Cards as a tracking system. His official spokesman (referred to by those in the know as the Pea-Moss) gave journos this quote from the PM
Once people are here ID cards are the only way of tracking them inside the UK…ID cards for nationals prevent illegal working and ensure people only access services and jobs if they are entitled to do so.
Oh come on PM. Surely you can track them via their mobiles, or using ANPR, or with a sprinkling of RFID dust? Or with facial recognition and CCTV, or via their Oyster cards? Get hip, man!
Anyway, confirmation from the top that The System is a tracking and denial of service tool. We as consumers are expected to pay for this and be happy. Oh, and banks and all sorts of other people like estate agents and dentists are bound to pay for it too, because they’re so happy. Can’t you just see the bosses of High Street businesses telling shareholders “It was so hard to do our jobs, keep our customers happy and charge them money before this wonderful tracking and denial-of-service tool was introduced.” I’m never cynical, but I’m pretty sceptical.

It seems the PM had a biometrics seminar at #10 on Wednesday. Here he is with John Reid and two visiting biometrics experts.
Wibbi they’d set up a Trustguide seminar as well.

So do we know who those experts are? The sort of experts that study biometric technologies, or the sort that sell them?
Well, not having had the opportunity to inspect their ID cards I don’t think I can validate their identity in any gold-standardy sort of way.

In line with today’s announcement of a “Ministry of Justice” and the long expected renaming of the state broadcaster to the “Ministry of Truth,” presumably the ID project will be run by the “Ministry of Trust”?
How long before the “Fire Brigade” is given its new role?
