I may have very few mates on MySpace, but I do have some heroes, and one of them is Sam Smith. He just wrote to say he’s upgraded TheGovernmentSays.com.

TheGovernmentSays.com has just expanded to cover all news from GNN, for each of the UK, and also inidividually Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, and each of the UK regions. It also now covers the travel news from the FCO.

In the words of the Observer last weekend, it’s “Great for sifting through the rubble on days when bad news is likely to be buried”.

He is so cool. You could probably replace several tens of millions of pounds worth of government admin costs with what Sam does in his spare time, and get a better service.

I find the wired-gov.net service useful. It is of course built with older technology, and costs more to run. However, too many Government press releases leave one cynical!

The prnewswire.com service is useful for commercial topics.

Learning how to filter these services better would be useful.

Despite apparently having so many Press Officers, today’s Govt. Press release seems not to be in English:

eg. “…is appointed today as the first Commissioner designate for the Compact – a new role to oversee the relationship between government and third sector voluntary and community organisations.”

It must mean something to somebody?
