Which apologies for the unashamed promotion of a project that I’ve helped with, WriteToThem.com (the deserved successor and superior to FaxYourMP – pity we couldn’t think of a better name) is now just over 1 year old (happy St Valentine’s!)
As part of the celebrations we’ve released the WriteToThem 2005 zeitgeist of statistics about the last year, including a table of MP performance at responding to their constituents’ letters which comtains some interesting gems.
Your thoughts, comments, criticism and feedback would be much appreciated.

:ahhh:
This is brilliant (and shocking). What an excellent resource (user-friendly etc), and how enlightening about UK democracy. I am somewhat reassured that Harriet Harman only answered 29.8% of first-time letter-writers, as I certainly didn’t have a response to my letter last summer. I think the scandal is that all of these MPs have offices staffed at taxpayers’ expense to do tasks like answering letters from constituents! What exactly are we paying for? Should MPs be able to claim 100% of the costs of running their offices if they only answer 29% of their letters? What about a sliding scale of cost-recovery, dependent on performance?
My immediate response to the league tables is an unexpected, nay unprecendented, warmth to the Tories….!
