It would make sense: a good way to engage with critical friends in a moderated environment. I can only see

Australian PM John Howard (if this isn’t a spoof then Australian politics are beyond parody)
Dutch Deputy PM & Finance Minister Gerrit Zalm (in Dutch, looks serious, but no comments)

Anyone aware of any others?

Sorry William — it’s parody.

There’s no question our politics are the stuff of comedy — but, of course, the politicians don’t understand why the ‘laugh’ cues seem out of synch!

Not exactly what you were asking about, but close. Margot Wallstrom, an EU Commissioner, blogs at http://weblog.jrc.cec.eu.int/page/wallstrom

The alternative John Howard is an old favourite. I thought it had been ‘disappeared’, so it’s good to see some action there.

This is a valuable collection, William. We are expecting to be hit with an improved set of “control orders”. The only variable seems to be the speed with which the Labor “opposition” can cave in.

Australia has been keeping David Hicks cooped up at Gitmo Bay, as an example of what can happen to dissenters. But it’s always handy to have another cock-up in the quiver. That’s why I’m not disappointed that our government’s enthusiasm for ID cards has gone off the boil, although your UK government’s mishandling is the blame for that. We did have a poor mentally ill woman locked up in migration detention, because she didn’t, and we couldn’t, establish her identity. This imprecision in identification certainly broadens the target range. I’m sure we will be able, under the new powers, to task a programmed officer to take out someone with extreme prejudice, to give another lesson in democracy.

Now, if you at IG would just stop putting forward excuses, we could be making good progress. I don’t know the destination, but I trust our government to tell us just what we need to know, no more and no less. :bug:
