WRITTEN ON November 3rd, 2004 BY William Heath AND STORED IN Ideal Goverment - project

Here are the slides to support what I presented today (sizeable ppt file below – see extended entry). It’s MUCH shorter than what some of us discussed last week, with all vertical specifics (health, education, defence) cut out and used instead as examples to support the three themes

- co-design with users
- build a foundation of trust
- quick win suggestions

The new CIO Ian Watmore is receptive and sharp. Also conscientious about civil service rules and etiquette so the meeting was off record and I can’t post what he said. But there is a considerable amount of thinking along similar lines. I even found the Design Council public services report in the Cabinet Office foyer.

They want feedback on latest changes to DirectGov which I’m sure we’ll be up for. We may get a more specific steer from DirectGov director Gary Ashby. ideal_final_for_2_Nov.ppt

So given you’ve presented to Ian Watmore now, and published both the presentation and as much as you can of the discussion, whats the future for this blog?

I reckon it stays open – people are still getting in touch for the first time, and some who asked for author credentials have yet to post.

We use DirectGov and feed straight back to the man in charge.

We evaluate what it would take to send off a “voyage to the interior” to do some mapping, and whether this is a wiki-civilservice-yearbook

We never get frustrated by public services again. Instead we post exactly what happens, and then post what should have happened – the ideal “wouldnt it be better if”. When we have enough of these we call it the Wibbipedia and consider putting it in some structured format.

Consider the humble readers, interested in e-government and public sector IT contracts, but not involved directly!

Please keep the blog going, if the contributors continue to post along the lines William has laid out, the idela government blog will continue to be as informative an interesting as it currently is.

would contributors also consider posting updates on government IT contracts granted and negotiated?

Well, Uncle Buck and I just met and cooked up a crafty plan for the next stage. I’ll work on a succinct expression of our discussion.

For contracts news see my day-job employer Kable at http://www.kablenet.com . It offers free news, and industrial-strength market intelligence for professional users. [end of commercial. But Kable did sponsor the direct costs of this blog]
